CANSEA is a non-profit, non-government network, legally incorporated in Malaysia and governed by its members. The documents and principles below set out how the network is run, how it holds itself accountable, and how this website treats the people who use it.
The CANSEA Charter is the network’s primary governing document. It defines CANSEA’s purpose, the criteria and process for membership, and the roles of the General Assembly, the Board, and the National and Regional Nodes. It was adopted by the General Assembly and may only be amended by it.
On joining, every member organisation binds itself to the Climate Action Network International Code of Conduct, and undertakes to respect and apply the rules of the CANSEA Charter and the CAN Charter (Charter, clause 3.2). Members act independently of both government and business interests.
Membership is open to registered, non-profit, non-government organisations that are independent of government and industry and are committed to ambitious climate action and sustainable development. There is no membership fee. The full eligibility criteria and application process are set out in the Charter.
The Board puts in place administrative working procedures and financial guidelines that comply with best international financial and accounting practices, and approves CANSEA’s annual budget, financial report and work plan. An annual progress report of the network’s activities is published upon the Board’s approval (Charter, sections 12 and 16).
